Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Astrolabe Apps collects, uses, and shares information when you use PetCompass (the “Service”), including the web app at app.procyonpet.com, Guardian cloud features, QR pet tags, and related SMS messaging.
1. Who we are
PetCompass is operated by Astrolabe Apps as part of the ProcyonPet ecosystem. Contact: privacy@procyonpet.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account & Guardian sign-in: mobile phone number, one-time verification codes, optional email address.
- Pet & care profiles: pet names, species, breed, age, weight, medical notes you choose to store, emergency contacts, and handoff preferences.
- Location & search: town, ZIP code, or device location when you search for emergency or directory clinics.
- Handoff & communication: clinic selections, triage answers you enter, and email addresses used for handoff summaries.
- Support: messages you send us.
Information collected automatically
- Device type, browser, IP address, and general usage logs.
- Cookies and local storage on your device (see our Cookie Notice).
- Voice input processed in your browser session when you use optional voice features (not stored as audio recordings on our servers unless you explicitly save content).
SMS / text messaging data
When you opt in to receive text messages from PetCompass, we collect and store:
- Your mobile phone number and opt-in timestamp.
- Delivery status and carrier error codes for messages we send.
- STOP, HELP, or other keyword replies you send to our messaging number.
- The category of message (for example, Guardian sign-in code, pet tag scan alert, or service notice).
We do not sell your phone number or SMS opt-in data. We do not share SMS opt-in or consent data with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes.
3. How we use information
- Provide emergency clinic search, handoff pages, and Guardian vault sync.
- Send transactional SMS you request (sign-in codes, scan alerts to you or your designated emergency contact).
- Improve reliability, security, and product quality.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. How we share information
We share information only as needed to operate the Service:
- Service providers under contract (hosting, database, SMS delivery such as Twilio, email delivery). They may use data only to perform services for us.
- Clinics & handoff recipients when you choose to share a handoff page or email summary — only the information you direct us to send.
- Legal & safety when required by law or to protect users and the public.
We do not share mobile information or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
5. Data retention
We retain account and pet profile data while your account is active. SMS logs are retained as needed for compliance, troubleshooting, and dispute resolution, then deleted or anonymized according to our retention schedule. You may request deletion subject to legal exceptions.
6. Security
Guardian vault data is encrypted at rest using industry-standard methods. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to protect your information and notify you of significant breaches as required by law.
7. Your choices
- SMS: Reply STOP to any PetCompass message to opt out of further texts (except legally required confirmations). Reply HELP for help. See the SMS Program page.
- Account data: Email privacy@procyonpet.com to access, correct, or delete Guardian data where applicable.
- Local-only mode: You may use PetCompass without Guardian sign-in; data stays on your device only.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. U.S. state notices
Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights (access, deletion, opt-out of sale/sharing). We do not sell personal information. To exercise rights, contact privacy@procyonpet.com.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Effective” date at the top will change. Material changes will be posted on this page.
